History was made Friday night in Moncton when the Quebec Remparts selected Maddox Dagenais with the No. 1 overall pick at the QMJHL Draft.

Dagenais is the 16-year-old son of former Canadien Pierre Dagenais, who was the No. 1 overall pick at the 1995 QMJHL Draft by the Moncton Alpines, who a year later changed their team name to Wildcats.

This marks the first time a father and son have both been selected with the No. 1 pick at the QMJHL Draft.

Pierre posted 43-25-68 totals in 67 games with Moncton during the 1995-96 season before being selected by the New Jersey Devils in the second round (47th overall) of the 1996 NHL Draft.

Pierre had brief stints with the Devils and Florida Panthers before being signed by the Canadiens in the summer of 2003. In Montreal, Pierre was reunited with Mike Ribeiro, who was his linemate during their final season of junior with the QMJHL’s Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in 1997-98. That season, Pierre had 66-67-133 totals in 60 games with the Huskies, while Ribeiro had 40-85-125 totals in 67 games.

The trio of Pierre, Ribeiro and goalie José Theodore earned the nickname the “Three Amigos” during their time in Montreal as party boys who liked to hang out together.
