Last season, Xhekaj suffered a season-ending injury to his right shoulder during a fight with the Edmonton Oilers’ Vincent Desharnais on Feb. 12 that required surgery.

The Canadiens also announced Friday that they have called up forward Joel Armia from the AHL’s Laval Rocket. Armia will join the Canadiens in Los Angeles, where they will play the Kings on Saturday (4 p.m., TSN2, RDS, TSN 690 Radio, 98.5 FM). Armia has 6-3-9 totals in eight games with the Rocket this season. Armia only had one goal in the six games he played with the Canadiens after the first time he was called up this season.
